Ever since the man appeared on earth, he has always been searching to better himself; better home, better food, better comfort and last but not least, better ways of expressing himself. Surprising as it may seem, the expert weavers of the city of Kashan discovered the panacea of how to improve their life. They have found the balance between functionality and aesthetic comfort by reinventing the beauty of carpets, and by having a Persian Kashan rug you can also bring this equilibrium directly in your home.

Kashan is an oasis city in the province of Ifsahan situated on a caravan route in the Dasht-e Kavir desert, which is right in the heart of Iran. It is heavily dependent on the mountains nearby, which provide water for the inhabitants; many houses in the city are built below the ground level to protect them from heat and scorpions.

The weavers of this city pride themselves on having more than 5 centuries of experience producing stunning rugs and carpets, with only one recorded interruption in the 18th century caused by the Afghan invasion. In the 16th and 17th centuries the city was famous for its royal workshops, it is said that kings from wide spread corners of the world went there to buy carpets in person. The oldest remaining Persian Kashan rug dates back to 1542, and is displayed in the Victoria and Albert museum in London.

At the end of the 19th century the flourishing garment trade took centre stage, however, it wasn't long before the rug trade retook it's rightful place in history. At the beginning of the 20th century they used to import Manchester wool, but they shifted to Sabzavar which is, of course, geographically more accessible.

A Persian Kashan rug is easily recognizable because they have quite a limited range of patterns; most of them having a single diamond-shaped medallion in the middle, with a typical combination of curves and right angles and completed with a myriad of floral motifs (Shah Abbasi), leaf motifs and arabesques. Wild hunting scenes, palmettos and vases can also be found.

A Persian Kashan rug will usually have a rather limited palette, with red, ivory, navy blue and some greens being the predominant colors. Ocre, olive green, white and brown can be found occasionally. Generally, the colors will be arranged in such a way as to convey a very pleasing contrast, not bold, but more conservative and sober in appearance suited for stylish classical interiors.

Most of the carpets have a very fine base with wefts and warps made of cotton and a short, tight and thin wool pile. However, the most beautiful pieces, the ones of exceptional quality, are made entirely of silk. These, and those with a large number of KPSI (over 700), are quite rare and cost proportionally.

Persian Kashan rugs are among the finest and most exquisite carpets in the world, so, just like in the case of other Persian rugs, be careful about fakes as there are many countries which produce chemically dyed, low-KPSI carpets who pretend to be Kashan producers but aren't. It would be a pity not to enjoy the original splendor of a real Persian Kashan rug!

You're probably shopping for an air compressor because you've heard about the power of air tools over electric tools. If it's not more torque and higher RPMs you're looking for then maybe it's the easy interchange between tools - almost as simple as plugging the tool into an outlet. Either way you're convinced that you need an air compressor but you're not quite sure where to start. This article will give you some of the basics about air compressors and then guide you through to selection by asking you five questions.

Here are some of the key attributes you'll be paying attention to when you start shopping for your air compressor:

Horsepower:
Air compressors, as their name implies, compress air. This takes an engine and engines have horsepower. The horsepower of the engine you're considering has direct impact on all the other aspects of your compressor's performance. Horsepower is often inflated, and you should be paying closer attention to the engine's rated amperage for an idea of how powerful it is.

PSI:
PSI stands for pounds for square inch. Of course as you remember from high school physics class PSI is a measurement of pressure. To be exact, how many pounds of pressure is applied per square inch. The PSI rating is one of the crucial ratings in the air compressor to understand as air tools have a minimum amount of PSI required to run. Typically that's 90 PSI, but it depends from tool to tool.

CFM:
CFM stands for Cubic Feet Per Minute and it's a unit for measuring the rate of flow in or out of a space. In this case, the rate of flow of air out of your air compressor. Air tools typically require 4-6 CFM for proper operation.

Tank Size:
The tank size, measured in US gallons, tell you how much air is compressed and give you something of an idea of how long you can operate your air tool for at a time. The other factors that affect how long you can run your tool for are the PSI and HP of the engine itself as these factors determine how quickly your compressed air supply is replenished.

Now that you've got the very basics of Air Compressors, here are four questions that will help you make your decision

1) Who's Using the Air Compressor, and What For?
Is it you in your shop on weekends building birdhouses? Or is it for your construction company's framing up new houses? The level of use should be your first consideration when making a purchase and will help you determine how much of an investment really makes sense for your compressor. The aspects of the compressor you should be paying the most attention to here are PSI and horsepower. The higher these are the more power and continuous usage you'll get out of your compressor.

2) What Air Tools Do You Plan To Use?
Will you be using an impact wrench in an assembly line automotive project? Or are you using a brad nailer to finish up your wood shop projects? Again, the amount of usage you're applying to your tool is a key factor in determining the HP, PSI and CFM of your air compressor. Typically, for the wood shop owner, you're looking at using finish nailers, brad nailers and narrow-crown staplers for your projects.

3) Will You Be Using More than One Tool At A Time?
If you're running two tools at once from a single compressor then you will need to invest in a compressor with more HP, PSI and CFM. A larger tank size would be beneficial as well.

4) Will You Be Mobile or Stationary?
If you're stationary then you'll be fine with an electric powered air compressor. If not then you'll need a gas powered compressor that you can bring with you to your electricity-free work site.

Armed with the basics of compressor lingo - PSI, CFM, Tank Size and Horsepower you should be a formidable consumer when you go shopping for your next compressor. Be highly skeptical when talking with compressor salesmen as they often know very little about the units they sell and seek to razzle dazzle you with big talk that won't help you get the right compressor for your needs.

As always when choosing a new tool, know precisely how you plan to use it when making the purchase. Keeping this in mind will always lead you to the right tool for the job.

Now that you've invested in an air compressor to run all of your air tools you're going to have to learn how to keep it up and running. Because the standard handyman's air compressors don't typically require daily upkeep, it's easy to forget about them and neglect their upkeep. This can be a costly oversight so it's vital for you to keep an eye on the following maintenance tips.

Maintenance Tip 1: Read and Follow Your Air Compressor's Manual
Nothing stops an air compressor faster than an owner who doesn't read the owner's manual. There's going to be some simple tips in there for you that will help you to get a nice long life out of your air compressor - simple stuff for you to do that you would never have thought to do unless you read it. Plus, if you don't follow the rules in your air compressor manual there's a chance that you'll void your warranty. That in itself should be enough of an incentive to read the "flipping" manual.

Maintenance Tip 2: Drain The Moisture From The Tanks
The receiver tank collects moisture from the air that it's compressing - especially if you live in a humid climate. Most tanks have a valve for draining this moisture that accumulates and it's up to you to make sure that these are drained regularly. Before draining the water you should be sure to release the air pressure from the tanks.

Maintenance Tip 3: Clean Intake Vents
If you force your air compressor to work too hard to intake air you're losing power on your compression. This will gradually degrade the quality of your tool. Be sure to keep your intake vent as clean as possible and check them regularly especially if you're working in a dusty or dirty environment.

Maintenance Tip 4: Tighten All Fasteners
Your air compressor's a running, vibrating engine and it will loosen its screws, nuts and bolts on a regular basis. Be sure to check these periodically and tighten them up if you find any that have jiggled loose.

Maintenance Tip 5: Check Hoses Regularly
Check all your hoses periodically as they are the veins of your air compressor. If they become cracked or corroded they could soon begin to leak and then put undue strain on the rest of your compressor's components. Be sure to check them and replace them if you find them cracked or damaged.

Maintenance Tip 6: Test the Safety Shutdown System
Your air compressor may have a built in safety shut down. The function of this system is to shut off your compressor if it's getting too hot, or if the engine's oil pressure is too low. This test will help you ensure a longer lasting compressor.

Maintenance Tip 7: Check and Change Air Filters As Needed
A filthy air filter is only hurting your air compressor by allowing dirty air from the outside in, plus forcing it to work harder to intake air. Check your filters regularly and change them if you notice a heavy build up of dust and dirt. Change every six months or so if you use it infrequently.

Maintenance Tip 8: Clean the Fuel Tank
As with any engine you need to periodically clean out the fuel tank to ensure optimal operating conditions. You should look to clean out the engine on your air compressor once every year or so to remove any residual build up from the fuel. This will preserve the life of your engine.

Maintenance Tip 9: Check and Change the Compressor Oil
If you're running a compressor that uses oil you should be checking it on a daily basis to make sure that your machine is topped off. Then, every 500-1000 hours of use you should be changing this oil to ensure maximum functioning of your air compressor.

Maintenance Tip 10: Change the Separator Element
The separator element prevents the excessive use of oil, but it has to be replace periodically. Keep your compressor in top condition by replacing the separator element every 1,000 hours of operation.

Maintenance Tip 11: Clean the Heat Exchangers
If your heat exchangers are dirty then they can't do their job, which is to reduce the operating temperatures of your air compressor. Clean them regularly to keep your operating temperatures down and increase the life span of your air compressor.

By following the tips above you'll ensure a nice long life for your air compressor, plus the jobs that you use it for will go faster and more productively. A well maintained air compressor is a wonderful machine for any job site or workshop, so keep yours running smoothly.

If you live in a dry and arid climate then your desert landscaping is going to take a little more planning than some other parts of the country. desert landscaping will have to work with a plan that includes only plants and trees that can survive with much less water than some other plants. There is no point in planting something if it can not sustain itself afterwards. So take some time with your desert landscaping plan and make sure that you have done everything suited to the climate.

You could spend the money to get better irrigation put in but the money will be great and the time will be all consuming. It is much simpler for your desert landscaping plan to just include plants that will thrive even in the hot sun all day.

What makes using desert landscaping friendly plants so great is that not only will these plants do well even in the hot sun they will also be able to thrive in poor quality soil. This is a much needed quality because places that have so much sun tend to have poor soil as well. So in essence you are killing two birds with one stone as they say.

Here are some wonderful plants that you can use in your desert landscaping:

Longwood Blue bluebeard
This is a shrub, it is deciduous and it will grow back each and every spring. It will always come back healthy and happy and this makes it perfect for desert landscaping. It is not a tiny shrub, it will grow to be anywhere between 3 and 4 feet high with a width of about 2 feet. This is a lovely plant to use in your desert landscaping as it is not only beautiful with its pretty blue flower clusters and silver foliage, it is also very fragrant.

Autumn Joy
This is a wonderful perennial that you can plant for your desert landscaping. With this choice you will have great leaves in pretty whorls. These leaves can be any number of different colors and can be bought to go with any desert landscaping design. This plant is the ultimate for desert landscaping because it can grow in rock gardens with ease. This lovely desert landscaping plant also has a unique and interesting flower unlike any other I have ever seen. These small flowers grow in clusters and they can be a few different colors and shades. The most common are yellow, orange and red and pink. If you plant these in your garden you will have butterflies around all of the time and they make for lovely entertainment on their own.

Okay, so maybe at 24 years old it was time for me to move out of my parent's house. I think the hardest part for them was sitting down and actually saying the words, "We think it's time you get your own place."

Was it kind of a shock? Well, yeah. But after about five minutes I started thinking about all the ways I could pimp out a place of my own, and I started getting pretty excited.

I could finally have the TV I want, and play it as loud as I wanted, whenever I wanted. Same thing with videogames, my iPod, and on and on.

So as soon as the conversation was over I went online looking for information comparing Dish Network vs Direct TV. No way was I gonna continue watching lame cable in MY place.

Do you have any idea how many websites are out there all claiming to be experts in satellite TV systems? I had no clue there were over a million!

After two hours, I cut the computer off, not knowing much more than I knew when I signed on. Oh sure, I learned a few things about Dish Network vs Direct TV. But not enough to make a decision.

The few things I did learn were that both Dish and Direct TV have a customer service line available 24/7, and are rated numbers one and two in customer service. (Dish Network edged out Direct TV for the number one spot - but the point is, they both beat cable year after year.) Prices for starting packages are reasonably priced by both companies, with about ten bucks separating the two.

Beyond that, I didn't find out much more in my two hours. So how do you figure out who has the best deal?
Well, you can spend hours clicking around to every website known to man, or you can take advantage of my research and just go straight to the two or three sites that are worth anything.

There's a list down at the bottom of this article with the three sites I found that will help you decide. If you go anywhere else, you're just wasting your time.

Listen, at any given time, there are tons of promotions out there and they all sound pretty good. Free HBO, discounted package prices, multiple room installations, but here's the catch. They change ALL the time!

Lucky for me, (and now, because you're reading this, lucky for you, too) I found the three websites below.

These guys stay on top of all those changing promotions, so when I was ready to sign up, I knew I was getting the best and most current deal possible.
After learning more about Dish Network vs Direct TV, I finally decided to go with Direct TV.

While both satellite TV providers offer a comparable number of channels (including my local channels) for roughly the same price, Direct TV also includes 50 XM Satellite radio channels as well. I really liked that perk.

The thing that tipped the scale for me, though, was the awesome sports programming offered by Direct TV. Yeah, it cost extra, but that NFL Sunday ticket blew me away! I'll have access to almost every game in the NFL every week!

Now, don't get me wrong, Dish Network has some pretty incredible deals too, but as a HUGE fan of pro football and a big sports fan in general, I had to choose Direct TV. The bottom line is this: Dish Network and Direct TV both have a lot to offer their subscribers; it's just a matter of personal preference.

The thing is, you need to have enough information to make an intelligent decision. That's why you need to go to the websites listed below. They're the best source I found for clear and concise information about Dish Network vs Direct TV.

And regardless of your choice, you'll be better off than if you were still watching cable!

The only three Dish Network vs Direct TV sites worth your time are http://hubpages.com/hub/Dish_Network_vs_Direct_TV or http://www.squidoo.com/dish_network_vs_direct_tv. You should also look at http://www.buzzle.com/articles/dish-network-vs-direct-tv.html. You can thank me later.

Are you a homeowner? More importantly, are you a homeowner who would like to have your kitchen remodeled? Whether you are looking for a change or looking to redo a poor quality kitchen, you may seriously be thinking about kitchen remodeling. Once you have officially decided that you would like to have your kitchen remodeled, you will need to decide how that remodeling will occur. When it comes to kitchen remodeling, you can remodel your own kitchen or hire a professional to do it for you.

With kitchen remodeling, one of the most popular remodeling methods is self remodeling. Self remodeling is when a homeowner decides to do their own remodeling themselves, without professional assistance. If you are tying to decide whether or not you should do you own kitchen remodeling, it may be a good idea to examine the advantages and disadvantages of doing so. You will find that there are a number of advantages to doing your own kitchen remodeling, but you will also find that there are a number of disadvantages as well.

One of the most common reasons why homeowners choose to do their own kitchen remodeling is because of the cost. When it comes to hiring a professional contractor, the cost will vary, but it is sometimes quite high. That cost often does not include the cost of supplies and materials; however, if it does you will easily be able to notice because the overall cost will be high. If you are able perform your own kitchen remodeling repairs, you may be able to save yourself a fairly large amount of money. One of the reasons for that is the fact that you only have to pay for your supplies and materials. If you are looking for a low-cost way to remodel your kitchen, self remodeling may be the way to go.

In addition to saving money, self remodeling is also preferred by homeowners because it enables them repair or remodel their kitchen anyway that they see fit. If you hire a professional contractor to remodel your kitchen for you, they will be using your ideas and suggestions; however, last minute changes are sometimes frowned upon and they may even cost you money. If you are doing your own kitchen remodeling, you will not have this problem. You can change your mind about any aspect of your remodeling project at anytime, rarely with any consequences.

As previously mentioned, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages to doing your own kitchen repairs. Although it is nice to save money and be able to have complete control over your kitchen remodeling project, you will find that it often takes a lot of time to do your own kitchen remodeling. Professional contractors are not only good at what they do, but they are also experienced. That is one of the reasons why they are able to complete most of their jobs in no time at all. If you do not have any home improvement or remodeling experience, the job could take you twice as long, if not longer, to complete. If you are limited on the amount of time that you have available or if you have a deadline, you may find it difficult or impossible to do your own kitchen repairs.

In addition to the time it takes, when deciding whether or not you should do your own remodeling, it is important to consider the damage that can be done. It is no secret that it isn't always easy to remodel anything, let alone a kitchen. The difficultly will all depend on which areas of your kitchen you plan on remodeling. If you do not have home improvement or remodeling experience, you need to be careful with how you approach the situation. A quality remodeling project is likely to increase the value of your home, but a poor one may reduce the value of it. That is something many homeowners do not realize or even think about it.

As you can see, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages to doing your own kitchen remodeling. In addition to the above mentioned factors, it is also important to take the size of your project into consideration. If you are only doing a small project, such as replacing your kitchen sink, it may be a good idea to take the time to familiarize yourself with the process instead of automatically making the decision to pay a professional.

Careful planning is the key to a successful bathroom-remodeling project. Before you begin any work in the bathroom, create a budget, a floor plan, a list of supplies, a timetable, and important legal considerations. Let's break it down by subject.

First, create a budget. Determine how much money you can comfortably spend, and save about 20 percent for emergencies. Get estimates for the work that needs professionals, and always include electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and drywall installation costs in your budget.

Second, design a floor plan. Ask yourself, will you be working with the existing space or will you be adding on or knocking down walls? Check to make sure you will not disturb the electrical wiring, plumbing, or zoning regulations. Next, measure the amount of space you have and draw a floor plan. In drawing the plan, first put in all the items that are fixed. For example, if the toilet must be in one place because of plumbing, it is a fixed item. Experiment with how you like your floor plan, using different arrangements, with different types of cabinetry, shelves, or even walls. You might try pocket doors to save space, and corner sinks, floating sinks, or pedestal sinks to save even more space. L-shaped vanities and alcoves also save space. In addition, corner showers conserve space, and clear glass in showers creates the illusion of even more space. You may want to add windows or mirrors to let in light.

Third, make a list of the supplies you'll need and make sure they are available when you need them. Some typical supplies include sinks, flooring, wall tile, countertops, lighting, medicine cabinets, showers, bath tubs, cabinets and cabinet handles, toilets, extra storage, faucets, toilet paper holders, paint or wallpaper, chairs, accessories (like storage containers and/or artwork), as well as tools you have or can buy.

Fourth, create a timetable. Talk to experts or people at home improvement stores to plan how much time you'll need. If you're hiring contractors, work with them to design a timetable you all can follow.

Plan projects according to the time you have available. Put in a new toilet and sink one weekend, for example, and paint another. You don't have to do it all at once, so plan sensibly. Don't paint the walls or install woodwork until the hardware is taken care of -- you don't want to damage work you've already done. Above all, be flexible and allow time for the unexpected or even emergencies to happen.

Fifth, keep in mind legal considerations. Get and post a building permit, pay any necessary fees, make sure you, your contractor, and any workers have insurance coverage, and keep children and animals away from the construction area.

By following these checklists, your bathroom remodeling plans will be a snap

Are you a homeowner who wishes that there were something different about your kitchen? Although most homeowners love their homes, including their kitchens, it is relatively easy to get bored of something, especially a room that you visit multiple times a day. If you are looking for a change, particularly with your kitchen, you may want to think about remodeling your kitchen. A kitchen remodeling project may be just what you and your kitchen needs.

Kitchen remodeling; sounds fun doesn't it? If the idea of remodeling your kitchen sounds exciting, there is a chance that you may want to get started right away. Of course, you can start remodeling your kitchen whenever you want, but first you must develop a plan. That plan should not only include what particular parts of your kitchen you would like changed, but also how you want them changed. For instance, if you are making the decision to replace your old kitchen cabinets and countertops with new ones, you need to choose a new set. In fact, you must choose a new set before you start your project; otherwise, you could be left with a mess. The only problem is that many homeowners, just like you, have a difficult time determining exactly what they want.

If you have decided that you would like to have your kitchen remodeled, but you don't exactly know to the full extent how yet, you may want to seek assistance. If you are looking for professional assistance, you may want to think about acquiring the services of a professional decorator. Professional decorators are individuals who have not only had training, but they also have experience in the art of decorating. A professional decorator could not only advise you to replace your kitchen floor, but they could also offer you suggestions on what your flooring replacement should be. The only problem with this is that professional decorators charge money for their services; therefore, if you are looking to remodel your kitchen on a budget, you may find hiring the services of a professional decorator difficult or even impossible; however, there is an alternative.

If you are looking for kitchen remodeling ideas, such as the latest trends in kitchen countertops and so on, you are advised to use the internet. Perhaps, what is best about the internet is that it is free and the information is about the same as the information that a professional decorator would have provided with you. In addition to being free, the internet is quick and easy to use. This means that you don't have to wait until you get paid or wait until an appointment becomes available; you could easily familiarize yourself with the latest trends is kitchen remodeling, whenever you want.

Perhaps, the best way to use the internet is to perform a standard internet search. The internet search used should depend on what you are looking for. For instance, if you are looking for kitchen countertop ideas, performing a search with the words kitchen countertops may be best. You may be diverted to a website that offers free kitchen decorating or remodeling ideas, but you will likely be directed to an online website that sells kitchen countertops. These types of online websites are most commonly the websites of online home improvement stores. Professional home improvement stores will not just show you their products, but they will likely have online picture displays, just like the displays that you can find in most stores. These picture displays may help to give you remodeling ideas, such as which kitchen countertops would look good in your kitchen and which ones would not.

If you do not want to shop or examine kitchen remodeling products and designs ideas online, you could also visit one or more of your local home improvement stores. Most large home improvement stores sell the products, supplies, and materials that are the most popular; therefore, even if you are looking to have a trendy kitchen, you could get remodeling and decorating ideas by visiting your local home improvement store, but as previously mentioned, the internet is a lot easier and a lot quicker way.

Perhaps one of the most beautiful rugs ever made is a Tabriz rug; it defines the legends and history together with the sensitivity of the Persian world. Tabriz rugs are extremely aesthetically pleasing works of art which gather in their elegant patterns the myth of ancient traditions. Having such a carpet in your home will personalize it and give it the originality you always wished for.

Tabriz rugs come from the second largest city in Iran which is situated in the Persian Azerbaijan province which in the northwestern part of the country. This ancient city has a tumultuous story, which pre dates current records, for it was already a flourishing oasis when it was first mentioned in a written document.

Despite the wars, invasions and occupations it has been through, the inhabitants of the city managed to make the rug craftsmanship thrive commercially, with just a single period in the 19th Century when the business declined. The development of the Tabriz rug business throughout history was dominated by single families and sometimes even dynasties. During the Safavid Dynasty era (1499-1722), the town met with its cultural and economic climax, when members of this dynasty founded workshops and improved the commercial relationships, thus making Tabriz one of the artistic centers of Iran, Tabriz is now one of the main producers of high quality Persian rugs, if not the most prolific of them all.

But why is a Tabriz rug so special? Besides being of very high quality, these carpets show the weaver's exceptional artistic skills, which have shown to have been transmitted from generation to generation. They are exclusively hand-made and generally colored with natural dyes although some carpets manufactured after 1945 may be synthetically dyed and may have fewer KPSI.

The weave is most commonly made of very fine cotton, but some craftsmen use silk or a combination of these two and for the pile, they usually blend Kurk wool and silk. Some of the finest rugs use silk as an essential part for both the foundation and the pile, and even gold threads are interwoven in the base.

Some of the technical singularities of a Tabriz rug lie in the fact that they have double wefts usually made of cotton or wool together with cotton warps; they also have a combination of the Turkish and Persian knots (many of them have only Turkish double symmetric knots) and a tightly woven doubled foundation. The nap is slightly hard to the touch and very short trimmed for high-quality rugs and longer for the average carpet.

The patterns, colors and the large number of hues used are characteristics of a Tabriz rug and can have a palette which may range from dark red and navy blue as predominant colors, to ivy, tan, soft green and other pastels as contrasting colors. Tabriz rugs are known for the large number of colors used in a single piece. and usually have intricate patterns, with small and complicated details. Most Tabriz rugs have a medallion in the middle and quarters of medallion at the corners (shah abbasi, islimi, or a combination of the two), but there are some which may have geometric, simpler patterns where floral motifs are predominant, with vases, palmettos and hunting scenes near the edge. The diversity is overwhelming, however, some patterns are rare and can only be found in private collections or as family possessions.

Such magnificent rugs can bring a piece of the oriental magic into any room of your house. Who knows, maybe Aladdin's fantastic carpet will find its place straight at your feet!

We live in a world which needs more and more fast, economic and durable solutions to all our problems. History has showed us that we are capable of reinventing ourselves for the sake of comfort and speed, yet a the same time we still need to feed our spirit and thought to satisfy our vision and our touch sense. We need ergonomic houses which consume less but please more and yet we still want that personal warm and the feeling of belonging when we come home from a hard day's work. For all of those reasons, the modern man invented the Karastan Oriental rug, which is the magic balance between the technology of the 20th century and the traditional craftsmanship of the Oriental rug weavers.

The first Karastan Oriental rug was 'born' in 1928, on April the 8th at 2:02 a.m. It was the beginning of brand of carpets and rugs which literally last forever. When the Marshall Field's company invented, after 7 years of working, the first powered loom that could really imitate the hands of a seasoned master weaver they probably didn't realize that they had worked a miracle. In a few years the whole system was perfected to the most insignificant detail. The loom could weave or tuft the carpet, the materials used were impeccable (New Zealand wool, silk etc.), skein-dyed yarns - it was fast, more accessible and of extremely high quality.

To prove that their carpets could rival any hand-made rug, they tested a large piece of Karastan Oriental rug at the World's Fair in Chicago in the 1930's. Instead of showing it as an exhibit, they asked the people to come and literally walk on it as much as they wished, and whenr the carpet was filthy with stains and footprints, they started to clean half of it. The result was astonishing, the difference was clear - there was a vivid contrast between the brand-new-looking half and the other which was horribly stained. Since then they have been assigned the title of "The wonder company of America", understandably, of course. The test was repeated a few years later, this time 9 million people walked on a Karastan Oriental rug and history repeated itself; it will surely keep repeating it, because Karastan seems to reinvent itself periodically.

Karastan has passed from the first, axminster loom, to other, more sophisticated and more efficient looms, it has also improved the material used, the techniques and the pattern. Nowadays there are considerable collections of Karastan Oriental rugs which will meet even the highest expectations, the most exigent tastes and the most strict artistic requirements.

Diversity is the key to success and Karastan Oriental rugs are available in a wide range of designs, in rich colors, pale or bright, with elegant contrast and gracefully shaped patterns. They are warranted for 20 years for manufacturing defects and with proper care they moths and insects will never touch them. Most certainly, a Karastan Oriental rug is the much-needed detail for the house of the 21st century man.

Ceramic tiles are perhaps the most durable flooring option now available on the market. A ceramic tile is simply a mixture of natural clays that have been molded and fired at high temperature. Sometimes, it is made out of such recycled materials as auto windshields, old florescent bulbs, and ground glass.

It offers many advantages over other flooring options like marble and wood, which include durability, resistance to fire and moisture, resistance to tread wear and abrasion, resistance to frost, easy maintenance, slip resistance, thermal shock and stain resistance, and color permanence.

Above all, they are easy to clean and provide an upscale look to your living space and work place.

Ceramics have been used from centuries by people of different culture and region to embellish in it beautiful works of art. Depending upon the texture, color, design, and pattern, different types are now available in the market.

Ceramics may be either glazed or unglazed, or porous or waterproof. Glazed types are mostly machine made, and are pressed in a die as well as fired in a kiln, which in turn provides hard surface and color to the product. Among unglazed ceramics are quarry tiles and en caustic tiles. Noted for its durability and versatility, porcelain is another popular type of ceramic. Saltillos are available in two varieties: machine-made and handmade.

Based on the specific purposes, ceramic tiles are further classified into floor products and wall products. As the name indicates, the floor type is a great option to surface floors. Produced using methods like bicottura and monocottura, floor tiles are mostly porcelain, and are more durable.

Further, they are categorized into several classes. For instance, class 2 floor tiles are best for high traffic areas such as kitchens and laundry rooms. Class 3 can be used for any home installation. Likewise, class 4 are recommended for small as well as medium commercial applications, whereas class 5 is usually recommended for such areas as shopping malls and restaurants. There are also products in order to apply exclusively in areas like gardens and swimming pools.

Grouped under class 1, ceramic wall tiles are considered a perfect choice for counter top and wall applications. Compared to the floor type, they are less durable and are more prone to slippery, since they are glazed with a matte or semi-gloss surface. Apart from its usage in kitchens, fireplaces, and rooms, they are also widely applied outdoors.

One of the recent additions are designer tiles as well as decorative ceramics. Hand painted products are of special demand nowadays. Luster painting, transfer painting, and carving are the other popular methods for designing ceramic tiles. Almost all designs that are imaginable are now depicted.

But, all-time favorite designs are those of flowers, vines, leaves, and seashells. Sometimes they are inlaid with white pipe clay or mosaic, which makes it stand out from other designs. However, most popular are those containing traditional designs. For instance, ceramic tiles graced with Asian mythological figurines are really sought-after. In addition to designs, colors also play a dominant role in providing aesthetic look.

From the aforesaid discussion, it is evident that ceramic tiles arrive in a myriad of size, shape, pattern, design, and color. Hence, prior to tiling it must be ensured whether tiles you have chosen are suitable for your space.

Size is another thing to be considered. If your room or office is small, it would be better to apply small tiles. Also, while selecting a tile, check whether its texture goes with your room theme. Likewise, during installation process, use such a grout that complements your tile.

It must also be checked whether products you have selected are easy to clean as well as maintain. In addition, as some are prone to slippery, it may turn dangerous during winter months. Hence, it must be checked.

http://www.maverand.com offers the largest variety of ceramic tile, marble and granite mosaic and garden decorations. All products are carefully selected and come from the most qualified factories in Hong Kong and China.

Home renovation involves major alterations to your home which could include adding a new floor or a room, remodeling your backyard and garden, changing your kitchen design, adding new fixtures to your bathroom, setting up new air conditioning and heating system, and repainting walls or changing the wall papers. If you are planning to do home renovation, you should be prepared for a large financial outlay to take care of these expenses. Most people do not have the necessary financial resources and depend upon home renovation loans to undertake the work.

Sources Of Home Improvement Loans

Loans for home renovation can be obtained from private lenders, building societies or from banks. However, if you are only carrying out a home improvement work or some urgent plumbing or electrical repairs, you can take a personal loan which should be repaid within a short time so that you do not have to pay much interest. Personal loans do not need any security or collateral and as such the applicable interest rate is higher.

Secured Loans For Home Renovation

Home improvement loans are normally secured and as such you have to offer your home or any other property as collateral. Lenders feel more secure with such loans as they know that they can repossess the property if you falter in your repayment of the loan. As such, they offer lower interest rates and flexible payment terms so that you can stretch the repayment period thereby reducing the amount of the monthly payment. In any case, before taking any type of loan, especially a secured one, you should go through the terms and conditions of the loan with a fine toothcomb. After all, you dont want to lose your most prized possession your home.

Terms Of Home Improvement loans

Loans for home renovation attract different interest rates and other terms depending on the credit standing of the borrower. If your credit rating is good, the lender will offer a lower rate of interest and better terms as he does not see much risk in lending the money and vice versa. Lenders also take into account the values of the property before and after the renovation work. The other factors that a lender considers are the extent of the improvements, age of the house and the existing mortgage. Its advisable to take loans for home renovation from government approved lending companies including loan associations, banks and mortgage companies as there is less likelihood of fraud.

Benefits Of Home Improvement Loans

The biggest benefit associated with taking a loan for home renovation is that you can get tax deduction for upgrading your home. Moreover, when you renovate your home, its value will go up as its quality improves. This will mean that the loan will pay for itself. Home renovation can also be funded through an extra advance on mortgage, a flat rate unsecured loan or a variable rate unsecured loan.

If you are going to be attaching materials to other materials such as attaching a door frame to the wall you could manually nail in the wood frame or you could use something called a tacker, these come in many varieties for different purposes but you are most likely wanting to be using either a compressed air powered nailer or an electric nailer to help you with your project, please be aware with these tools they are very powerful devices and should be used with caution.

When firing the gun may bounce back so keep a firm grip on these and keep as much as your body out of the way to avoid injury to yourself. Also remember to buy a more standard style of gun or you may have a long trail around looking for the right nails for your gun, this both saves you time and expense.

Perhaps you need to put together your materials before placing them up, for these you will most likely need to use a clamp or vice as well as a workbench to work on, these also come in many varieties, the most common used clamp is the G and C- Clamps, these are high useful when you are wanting to join something together but do not have other people to help you.

You may also want a heavy duty clamp which is usually screwed underneath your workbench to ensure that when working with it, it wont move out of place, you can get standard vices that stay in place but if you need to turn the piece of material you are working on around its best to get a swivelling vice for convenience in your diy project. Vices are very good for holding items down if for example you are sanding it and it is not a standard straight object.

Another good use for vices is if say for example you have a nail or a screw stuck into the object material that you are working on, you will need something to hold it down while you are pulling it out and this is where the vice comes in great handiness, most hammers have nail removal parts on the back of them but, sometimes these are not convenient so there are other options that you can choose from.

You could use something like a nail puller which has two ends to fit most sizes, a pincer to pull them out, but be careful with these as they may break the top of the nail or screw which will make it harder to get out and delay your diy project. Another option is to use a pair of pliers to gradually ease out the nail or screw.

If you think all drill bits are designed the same then you may be experiencing some difficulty with the projects you attempt. Having the right drill bit makes a world of difference, but it isn't always easy to know which one to use. Each drill bit is made from different materials and they come in a variety of sizes.

There are five main types of materials that drill bits are made from. Steel drill bits don't cost very much and they are commonly used to bore into soft wood. They aren't a good choice for hard wood though because they will go dull to quickly to get the job done. If you really want to use a steel bit for hard wood make sure you use those designed specifically for high speeds.

Titanium coated drill bits cost more money but they last longer so you may end up saving money in the long run. The most durable type of drill bits for hard wood are designed from carbide that is placed on the tips. Cobalt drill bits are the most durable and also the most expensive. They work well for boring stainless steel and they handle heat well.

The style of bit you want depends on the type of material you plan to use it on. Twist bits are very common because they are very versatile. They work well on a variety of woods, plastics, and lightweight metals. An auger bit works well for heavy woods because it generally won't break from the pressure.

Sometimes you need to get a job done that requires you to cut the material in strange dimensions. A good drill bit for this is a drill saw bit designed for unique contours. There are special drill bits for cutting glass and tile as well. If you decide to use a regular drill bit for these materials you will often find the material gets chipped or broken.

Having a drill bit made from the right material as well as the right style for your project will make it go faster and give you much better results. It is less time consuming to find out the right drill bit to use for your project than it is for you to blindly pick one up and try it. Doing so can be a safety hazard as well as ruin the material you are working with. You can find the right drill bit for your project online in most instances.

Colours in your home can make or break it, use the wrong colour scheme and you could end up in a home that feels dull and eerie, or on the opposite you could end up with a nice house all open and welcoming both to you and your family as well as possible house buyers coming into your home.

First of all you will have to assess what is the purpose of painting, will you be trying to sell your home or are you staying living in your home, then you have to see what type of house you have, different colours have different effects on houses, would you put a vibrant yellow in a old house with oak wood beams, well you would if you want to ruin it, if you are in a old style house you most likely want it to be warm and inviting with shades of red but also incorporating white into it as well so not to make the room to dark.

There are many different types of paints as well as colours, you can even get your own colour made up for you at good diy stores, so you can get exactly what you are looking for. All types of paints fall into two categories water or oil based paints. Oil paints are good to be used on doors, metal, windows etc , where as emulsion paints are perfect for walls and ceilings and are a water based paint.

When using paints both styles come into either matt, semi-glass or gloss, matt being very good for walls where as gloss would be awful for walls and would be very hard to get off or cover over especially if the colour you are using is black.

Once you have chosen your paint you can then choose whether you want to paint straight onto the plaster or if you are going to add a texture to the wall with white wallpaper. There are many different designs available if you want to have a texture on your walls so you will have a big choice to find the right one for you.

The next obvious step is to choose the paint tools, there is so many to choose from, but you are most likely going to use either a dragging or colour brushes for your project, to speed up your diy project you could also use painting rollers with a variety of sleeve sizes to suit your needs.

When you are painting put masking tape around the skirting boards and the edge of the ceiling to help avoid getting different colour paints where they shouldnt be.

Perhaps you have recently had a flood recently, you will need to have all your flooring removed, this diy guide will give the best ways on removing the flooring that you have down. What tools have you got at hand, if you have tiles it can be very difficult especially if you do not have powerful tools, sure a chisel and hammer will get through the tiles, it will take you a extremely long time to do it, the best way to get tiles from the floor is to use a kango, you may notice that the grouting may stick onto the floor instead of coming off with the tiles, there are ways to help get it more easily.

When using the kango go to the edge of the tile where they join together and then push the kango as deep as you can for about 10 seconds and then gradually go down and under the tile, eventually bringing the tile up. If this is done right it will bring all the grouting up as well as keeping the tile in one piece.

Obviously sometimes during your diy flooring removal project you will not be able to get all the grouting up, but most of the time it is easy to get off with the kango, if possible swap between persons using it, as you will gain a large amount of debris from the flooring.

Carpets are quite easy to replace just remove the old one pulling up with a little bit of force at times to get them off the floor binders, then choose your new carpet after measuring the room out, double check the measurements to make sure you get it right or you may end up with areas not covered by carpet.

Maybe you have wood flooring, will it be hard to remove it, well it shouldnt be as long as you use the right tools and techniques, with wood flooring you could use the kango but being brittle you could end up with more mess than its worth, if its just a slide in floor then it will be as easy to take apart as it is to put together.

But in some cases it will be grouted to the ground so you will need to use a chisel and hammer to remove it use the same technique as you would with the kango removing tiles, getting underneath and pulling up the tile in one. You may end up with some excess grouting underneath so just chisel it off.

Plaster is a highly useful material to smoothen out your walls whether you have just decided to give a new image to your house or if you have had flood or fire damage, plaster will bring your home into a elegant state.

Old houses have been built using bricks and then they are then plastered over, if you have had flood or fire damage it is most important to remove the plaster, usually you are most likely to remove the plaster at the level of 1 m above the ground, to do so you could use the slow tiresome method of a chisel and hammer or you could use a kango electric tool to speed up you plastering diy project, these can be expensive but you can also hire them.

The kango basically is like a vibrating chisel, it is extremely powerful and can even smash through solid concrete with ease, if you choose to use the kango please also be aware you may need to use a chisel for certain areas of the room for example near plugs and pipes as this tool may rip through them and if live may electrocute you.

When removing the old plaster, make sure you do so all the way to the bricks or breeze blocks and make it as smooth as you can do so, a good method when using the kango is to get a Stanley knife and draw a rough line along at a certain level and then point the kango downwards until you reach the bottom then moving to the side and pressing further down so you can get as much plaster off as you can.

Once all the plaster has been removed you will be ready to plaster the walls, unless you have had damage such as flooding in which case you will need to dry out the house and seek advice from authorities to if it is ready to be plastered.

The most commonly used plaster is the gypsum plaster and this plaster is used in two layers, the first layer will be around about 10mm thick and the second layer will be around about 3mm thick. The first thing you need to do is to mix up the plaster ready for use, the best plaster to use is Do it yourself plaster as this will not set as quickly as the usual professional plaster products, if the diy project is large it is best to get the large bags instead of the ready made tubs as you will be using a large amount.

With the bags you will just need to mix in water with the plaster following the manufactures instructions. Once you have mixed your diy plaster you will need to scoop it onto your trowel, and then onto the plaster trowel and then apply it to the wall, once this has been done make scratches in the plaster so that the top layer of plaster can easily attach the plaster underneath.

Once this has been done apply the finish plaster on top of the repair layer, this layer needs to remain smooth so use a spare piece of wood to scrap off excess plaster on your walls.

An easier option than plastering is using plaster board, but this will not give the same feel of satisfaction as doing the plastering yourself.
