Carpets have been around for years now and although they are quickly being replaced by hardwood flooring, they are still an essential in most homes.
So just what is a carpet? Well, a carpet is a name given to something that is either a grass, felted textile or a loom-woven floor covering. However, one thing that you may not realize is that, in Europe until the 18th Century, carpets were not actually used on the floor. They were in fact used most commonly on tables or on the walls. So in history, carpets were things that hung from the wall, not spread on the floor.
Now there are a number of different types of carpets that you can choose from. These include handmade and manufactured carpets. The main difference with the two is that handmade carpets are likely to be a lot more expensive but they will be better made and they will look nicer too.
Manufactured carpets are obviously cheaper and they come in a large variety of different styles to suit every home.
The most popular types of handmade carpets are Persian and Turkish carpets. They tend to be designed really well and they do tend to give off a luxurious feel to the room. So if you are looking for something that will make your room look that little extra special, then a Turkish or a Persian rug may be just what you are looking for.
As well as using the carpets to cover the whole floor, there are also other uses for them. One of these uses is using the carpet as a border. You could put carpet going down the middle of your stairs for example. This would highlight the stairs and give them a unique feel. You could also use a strip of carpet to highlight the corridors in your home too. Generally, using carpet as a border does tend to work quite well and it does provide a unique look and feel to any room.
When it comes to choosing the perfect carpet for your home you will need to take into consideration the theme of the room. You will need to find the perfect color and choose the best carpet for your budget. If you can afford a handmade carpet then it would be worthwhile.
You may even be able to find a nice handmade carpet at a local flea market if you are lucky or a local carpet store may have a sale on. The trick is to look around and see what is available. Do not rush into buying a carpet for your home as the wrong one could potentially make the room look off balanced and uninviting.
